is accepting applications for one (1) Research Engineer / Applied Scientist position for the PLATCOM
project in Limassol, Cyprus. PLATCOM is an innovative project developing a platform-ready data compression
solution for big data storage and processing. By combining advanced compression techniques with intelligent
algorithm selection, the project aims to reduce storage costs, improve performance, and support data-heavy
operations across sectors such as telecommunications, finance, healthcare, and smart cities. The role is
ideal for someone who enjoys working at the intersection of software, machine learning, and product
innovation and wishes to contribute to a practical, market-oriented solution with strong commercial
potential and real-world applicability.
Required Qualifications
- - Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
- - Strong programming and analytical skills.
- - Good understanding of algorithms, data structures, and software development.
- - Interest in data compression, machine learning, big data, or applied research and development.
Additional Qualifications
- - A Master's or PhD degree in a relevant field will be considered an advantage.
- - Experience in one or more of the following areas will be considered an advantage: data compression,
machine learning, big data systems, performance optimization, applied R&D, or prototyping.
- - Experience with Python, C/C++, Java, AI development tools, or similar technologies will be considered
an advantage.
Duties and Responsibilities
- - Research and evaluate modern compression algorithms.
- - Integrate and optimize compression methods within the PLATCOM tool.
- - Design and run experiments using real and synthetic datasets.
- - Support intelligent compression algorithm selection workflows.
- - Benchmark performance for speed, storage efficiency, and reliability.
- - Contribute to the development of a robust MVP for industry use.
- - Support testing, refinement, and pilot deployments.
Terms of Employment
Gross monthly salary will range from EUR 2430 to EUR 3160 for full-time employment. Part-time
employment may also be offered. Employee contributions will be deducted from the gross salary. The
expected start date is
15/04/2026.
