Project Summary:
StrongILA lies in the area of Quantum Field Theory applied to the Physics of Strong
Interactions. We propose to study a number of physical quantities via state-of-the-art
perturbative and nonperturbative calculations in Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) and its
supersymmetric counterpart, employing a wide spectrum of improved fermionic and gluonic
actions defined on a spacetime lattice.
As its first major goal, this project will study flavor changing processes. In
particular, we will calculate Green's functions with insertion of four-quark operators,
which are of fundamental importance in the precise determination of the
Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix. We focus on both parity-conserving and
parity-violating four-quark operators, which change flavor numbers by one unit. A novel
Gauge Invariant Renormalization Scheme will be used to study these operators, and
conversion factors to the Minimal Subtraction Scheme will be provided; this will allow
us to connect results of simulations to experimental measurements.
A further part of the project regards the calculation of the mass corrections on the
lattice QCD beta-function to three loops in perturbation theory and for improved
actions. This function relates the bare coupling constant to the renormalized one and it
is essential for determining the nonperturbative evolution of the coupling with the
energy scale.
Another objective is the extraction of nonperturbative results for Supersymmetric
Theories through a lattice regularization, using as a prototype model N=1 Supersymmetric
QCD. To this end, we will compute mixing matrices for Noether supercurrent operator; the
effect of these investigations will be seminal, enabling the study of spontaneous
supersymmetry breaking.
Finally, we will study Ward identities by delving into the theoretical formation of
bound states which result from strong interactions among quarks, gluons, and their
superpartners, particularly focusing on operators which hold significant relevance to
meson and baryon particles.
